| dc.description.abstract | The National Policy of Education (1986) recommended establishment of DIETs in every district of the country. DIET Jammu was established in the year 1988. The sole purpose of DIET is to conduct different types of training programmes to improve the quality of basic education and create a desirable environment with in the district in regard to enroll more and more children of school age and part way for retention of those who are admitted in the school and to ensure high literacy percentage of male and female as a whole. District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) is a great step towards the universalization of elementary education. A self-prepared tool has been developed to study the quantitative and qualitative progress made in the implementation of scheme of DIET Jammu with special reference to: Infrastructure and Academic inputs. DIET Jammu does not have its own building and is situated in a rented building from J&K Industrial Estate Department. The building in which DIET is functioning is not suitable as it did not cope up with the needs and requirements of the institute. The building is very old, and not well furnished. Even there is no proper facility of sanitation. There is no hostel facility due to which the staff and pupil-teachers suffer a lot. DIET Jammu does not have canteen of its own but they use the canteen services of the Govt. College which is situated opposite the DIET. The DIET is manned by a Principal, 5HODs and 18 Lecturers. There is teaching and non-teaching staff in this institute. There is one section officer, one statistical officer, two sr. assistants, four jr. assistants, one stenographer and one librarian. There is a need to change the attitude of teachers as well as pupil-teachers towards work culture so that equipments available are properly used for teaching learning process. It is worthwhile to mention here that due to wrong transfer policies of state government the teaching-learning process is unable to progress effectively as it should be. | en_US |
