Abstract: The present study investigated the relationship between perceived social support and stress coping strategies among young adults aged 18 to 25 years. A quantitative correlational research design was employed with a sample of 150 participants (75 males and 75 females) selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) developed by Zimet et al. (1988) and the Brief COPE Inventory developed by Carver (1997). Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship between perceived social support and coping strategies, while independent samples t tests were conducted to assess gender differences. The findings revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between perceived social support and coping strategies (r = .272, p = .001), indicating that higher perceived support is associated with greater engagement in coping responses. No significant gender difference was found in perceived social support (t(148) = −1.636, p = .104). However, a significant gender difference was observed in coping strategies (t(148) = 4.935, p < .001), with female participants reporting higher coping strategy use than males. These findings highlight the role of perceived social support as an important psychological resource that facilitates adaptive coping among young adults. The study also emphasizes the need for gender sensitive interventions to strengthen coping skills and support systems, thereby promoting mental well being during this developmental stage.
